Javier Solis was the third child of a poor family. His mother sent him to live with his aunt and uncle Sra. Angela Lopez Martinez and Sr. Valentin Levario Plata, whom Gabriel felt great love and affection for as if they were his real parents. Because of their poverty, he had to drop out of school and never had the opportunity to attend High School. He was blessed with a very beautiful voice, and entered many singing contests as a child and won most all of them.
Coming from humble beginnings, at a young age Solis had to drop out of school to help support his family. He trained as an amateur boxer for six years with aspirations of turning professional, but quit after his father urged him to choose a more "decent" career.
